The Adventure Begins

Hola Amigos,

One more sleep and the adventure begins!!! I am excitedly prepping all my travel gear… yep I am a last minute packer. So excited about flying into the colourful and vibrant Mexico and to savour some delicious Tacos!

Flying to Mexico

Flying to Mexico

After a 23 hour flight, I’ll be spending my first few days in Mexico City. Hopefully I’ll be awaking fresh on Saturday morning to do the tourist thing – a bit of sightseeing, savouring the food, poking the odd cactus, buying a sombrero, wearing ponchos, and chatting to my new amigos.

That’s what you do in Mexico, right?

We had originally planned to spend some time in a location about an hour or so outside of Mexico City called Zitacuarto.Due to unforeseen circumstances with the area being a bit of a security threat we are changing our course and are heading for the beautiful township of San Felipe DelProgreso. Sometimes the things we dont plan work out best, we now have four families who will share their life and culture with me over the next three days. I feel so privileged to be welcomed into their lives and I want to do everything I can to capture the opportunities microfinance has opened up for them.

As I prepare for my first visit to a developing community, I’m also a little nervous about how
I’ll respond to the rawness of sharing life with the people of San Felipe and experiencing
what is for them daily life. But I know I’ll come away from the experience with a greater
understanding of their needs and the opportunities microfinance has given to them.

I look forward to sharing more of my adventure as it unfolds.

Tara you’ll have the time of your life. Nothing prepares you for your first trip to see VisionFund’s work, but my guys will look after you. Charlotte is a pro ad she speaks the language too. I’m so excited to see you go and will be following your progress with interest. Now get some sleep and enjoy the trip – the trip of a lifetime!

Tara nothing will prepare you for your first trip to our work in country. Your heart will be broken but your spirit will be raised when you see the hope and good work that has gone on. Charlotte speaks the language and will make sure all goes well. Before you know it you’ll be a pro with a following of beautiful kids wherever you go. Be open to everything and enjoy it – your film will be the richer for it.
